Every time open a file, an open panel appears.
When you open a file, Movist searches the same folder for series and subtitle files and automatically fills the playlist. The open panel is displayed to gain access to the folder. If you want to auto fill the playlist, just click the [OK] button. otherwise, disable related options in Preferences > Playlist > Auto-Fill.
Movist provides "Accessible Folders" preferences for convenience. If you add a folder to Accessible Folders, Movist will not display the open panel for gaining access to the folder any more. For convenience, it is recommended to add your favorite folders like your home directory or the video folder of the external drive to Accessible Folders. In addition, the folder selected in the open panel that is displayed when you open a file is automatically added to Accessible Folders. For more information about Accessible Folders, see Preferences > Playlists > Manage Accessible Folders…
The reason Movist needs access to the folders is because of the "App-Sandbox" security policy of macOS, and all apps in the Mac App Store must comply with this policy. Please refer to the following for details.

What is "Hardware (Force)" in video decode?
To use the hardware video decode acceleration, the video file must be made to conform to the relevant format. Otherwise, hardware decode does not work although supported codec. Movist can force hardware decode through special handling to be used even in such cases. However, it is not always possible, and may cause abnormal behavior in some files.
If you have some trouble in "Hardware (Force)" mode, please change to "Software". You can change it while watching video via main menu and control panel. In the main menu, press the Option key on the video track menu item to display the submenu. In the control panel, click the video track icon to display the pop-up menu.
If it's occurred in too much files and you're not comfortable with it, set the video decode setting to "Hardware" in Preferences. It will work only for movie files that are made to conform to the relevant format. Please send the files via "Send Bug Report" to help us improve Movist. -
Screen is black when 10-bit color processing is on.
Movist supports 10-bit color processing for richer and more accurate colors. If your Mac and display support 10-bit color, try setting Preferences > Video > 10-bit color processing. If you are unsure whether or not it is supported, set it to "Auto". Movist will detect support and automatically support it if available. If you set it to "On" when your hardware does not support, the screen may appear black. Also, even if you set it to "Auto", sometimes detection is wrong to support in some environments and the screen may appear black. In such cases, set to "Off". and, please send a bug report inclusing System Information. we will identify the cause of the false detection and improve it. -
When full screen starts on external monitor, main monitor turns black.
Make sure that the Preferences > Full Screen > Black out other screens setting is not turned on. Movist provides a function to black out other monitors so that you can concentrate on the full screen movie. If you want to do other operations on the main monitor while you're watching full screen movie in the external monitor, turn off the above setting. -
How do I view multiple subtitles at the same time?
Hold down Option key when you select a subtitle track in main menu or control panel. Alternatively, in control panel, select a subtitle track while the button on the upper left of the track list displays "☰" (changes each time the button is pressed). These are temporary additional selection methods. If you always want to work with additional selections, turn on Preferences > General > Select Tracks Separately. If you see "+" in the selection checkbox when you hover your mouse pointer over the track line in the control panel, it means that you will select additional track.
The location and style of subtitles depends on language of track. You can set the location and style for each subtitle language in Preferences > Subtitles. Add your favorite languages to the list and set location and style. If you select a subtitle track of language that is not set here, the "Default Style" will be applied. -
Some features from previous version can not be found in version 2.0.
Movist 2.0 was developed from the ground up using the latest technology. This allows us to support features that could not be implemented due to structural problems, and to provide the best features and performance in the latest macOS. However, due to time and technical reasons, there are some features that we have not yet implemented. We plan to make upcoming updates as soon as possible. However, features that are considered to be less useful may be changed or removed. Please send your opinion for new features, features you do not want removed, and improvements. We will actively consider your opinions. -
